Brief History

Organized by the consolidation of Pickett's Cavalry Battalion & Powell's Cavalry Battalion, to constitute part of General Philip Dale Roddey's command. Richard O. Pickett of Lauderdale was the colonel, and the men were from the northern Alabama counties (across the Tennessee River). They were first stationed at Mount Hope and were then assigned to Roddey in the District of North Alabama, Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana. The services of the regiment were confined in a great measure to outpost operations in the Tennessee valley, though it participated in the Pulaski raid, and other encounters and forays. They disbanded in the spring of 1865
